In this particular essay, it indicated that our relationships to our family, peers, and society influence our writing. The essay states we change the way we write - as we do with the way we speak - depending on the reader. The main influence, stated in this essay, refers to the writer's relationship to his/her culture. Cultural stories not only provide background to the culture itself, but can also identify the writer within the culture.

Through biological-linguistic perspectives and theories, we can determine writing is, indeed, natural. Writing, like thinking or speaking, is just another form of expression our brain materializes. From the social linguistic theory and the analysis of new literacy narratives, writing is used as a way to identify the writer. Writing is more than just words and thoughts, but is a representation of not only an entire culture, but also the individual.
